ACADEMIC ASSESSMENTS
Canterbury Bells School is recognised by the Delhi Administration, and it is affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education.
The School has provisions for the 10+2 scheme of education with approved facilities for the academic stream in classes from K.G. to Class XIIth.
The academic year is divided into two terms.
K.G. to Class XIIth

1. Examination will be held for classes K.G to IIIrd.
2. The pupil’s daily progress in oral and written work will be assessed and recorded.

Co-curricular activities promote holistic development of the student. These include Work Education, Art Education, Performing Arts and Health and Physical Education. The aspect of regularity, sincere participation, output and teamwork will be the criteria for grading. Students will be graded on a 3-point grading scale (A to C) for classes IV to VIII and a 5-point grading scale (A to E) for Classes IX & X.
3.Discipline (Attendance, Sincerity, Behavior, Values)

Discipline, sincerity, good behavior and values develop strength and foster unity and co-operation. Assessment for discipline will be based on factors like attendance, sincerity, behaviour, values, tidiness, respectfulness for rules and regulations, attitude towards society, nation and others. Students will be graded on a 3-point grading scale (A to C) for classes IV to VIII and a 5-point grading scale (A to E)for Classes IX & X.
For Class XIth
1. Assessment for class XI will be based on the students continuous academic performance during the year. The weightage allocated to formative assessment and examination is given below UT- 20% Term I- 20% Term II- 60%
2. No test or exam will be conducted for absentees. If a student is absent for a test or exam, she will be marked zero in it. All tests are as important as Terminal Examinations.
3. Grades will be given in the following areas of learning:

• work Experience
• Physical education
• value Education

A student must pass in the above areas of learning in order to be declared passed or promoted.
For Class XII
The Pre-board Examination is compulsory for class XII and will be conducted on the board pattern. Every student must do these and get a pass percentage in all five subjects if she has to be declared fit for the board examination.
General Rules for Examination
1. Students found using unfair means during test or an examination will be marked zero in that subject. They will also not be eligible for any academic award or the student council. Serious action will be taken against a repetitive defaulter.

2. A medical certificate stating a severe illness of a student may be accepted and the student exempted from the final examination.
3. Parents are strongly advised not to send their children to school for examination if they are ill. However, a serious view will be taken of those students who regularly absent themselves from tests and exams.

• Irregularity in attending school is a major disruptive force in a student’s life. It leads to a lack of sustained interest in studies. It also isolates a student from her companions for she misses opportunities for shared work and fun. Hence, the school takes a serious view of parents who do not ensure their ward’s regular attendance.
•  Students are accountable to the school authorities for their behaviour both in school and out of school, particularly when they are in their school uniform.
• Parents of students are expected to regularly check with the class teacher about the behaviour of their wards.
• Attendance: As per the CBSE circular in September 2010, 75% attendance during the academic year is required and no relaxation of any kind will be granted to a student who does not fulfil the school as well as the board requirements for all classes. If the child does not meet this criteria she will not be allowed to sit for the year end examination.
• If a student is found outside the school premises during working hours without the written permission of the school authorities, the Principal will be forced to take strict disciplinary action which, if deemed fit by the management, may lead to expulsion

• Leave of absence is granted on a written application from parents or guardians but only for serious reasons.
• If any student absents herself for more than a week without intimating the school about the reason for absence, her name will be struck off the roll. Readmission has to be sought if the child has to return to the class.
• It is also compulsory to attend all school functions.
• Appointments with doctors, dentists and other medical personnel must not be arranged during school hours.
• It is compulsory for a student who is absent for a day to bring a leave note addressed to the Principal/Headmistress and signed by the student’s parent/guardian. If the absence is due to a long illness/contagious disease, a doctor’s fitness certificate is essential, in addition to the leave letter.
• Children suffering from measles, Chicken pox and other infectious diseases should not be sent to school until the quarantine period is over.
• Measles – 11 days from the day of onset of cold and fever;
• Chicken Pox – 2 weeks after rash appears and till the crust has completely fallen off.
  This is a preventive measure to protect your child and the spread of the disease in the school. Serious action will be taken if a child with fever, measles, chicken pox or any other contagious disease is sent to school.

Discipline is the continual exercise of the will, enlightened by the intellect, so that it may act easily and habitually according to the right order and help to attain self-mastery”.
• If a student is found violating the rules and mission of the school constantly, the student may be asked to leave.
• Students who stay away from P.T, Art Education (visual and performing), Library and club classes will be dealt with severely.
• Students once present in school will not be allowed to leave school premises before 1:30 p.m.
• Indiscipline among students continues to be a persistent problem. The school management has therefore decided to adopt a policy of zero tolerance towards the following:
class intentionally within the school campus.

1. Bringing mobile phone, camera, laptop, clothes, shoes, gift for friends and teachers and others gadgets is strictly prohibited. If confiscated it will be returned at the end of the academic year with a fine.
2. Staying away from class intentionally within the school campus.
3. Bullying other students as per Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
4. Bringing any kind of contraband material such as alcoholic drinks or aerated drinks mixed with alcohol or any drug or intoxicant.
5. Smoking
6. Damage to school property
7. Collecting money without the permission of the principal or any other money transaction.
Strict disciplinary action including suspension/dismissal will be taken if any student is involved in any of the above.
School is not responsible for conti party or any other parties

All are expected to be in school by 7:20 a.m. on all working days.
The school gates will be closed by 7:25 a.m. Any student coming late will be penalised.
• No student may leave her class in between teaching periods.
• The Principal may penalise a child who is constantly out of class.

• Special care must be taken by teachers and pupils to maintain an atmosphere of silence and serious work during class hours.
• Order must be the hallmark of the school.
• Cleanliness is a prerequisite of order and is, therefore, a must. A standard of excellence is what we should attempt to maintain.
• The school expects every girl to maintain excellence in standards.
• No girl is permitted to enter the staffroom.
• The class will be dismissed only after the prayer, after which a last double bell will be sounded.
•  No collection whatsoever may be made in the school for any purpose without the permission of the Principal. Parents are earnestly requested not to give any personal gifts to staff members.
• The Principal can be contacted in case a parent wants an appointment with a teacher.
• The school strictly prohibits students from buying snacks from hawkers outside the gate.
• It is necessary that all students attend school in their complete uniform. Defaulters will not be given permission to enter class.
• The students from K.G. to Class XII are not permitted to celebrate birthdays or any other function during school hours.
• The students are not permitted to carry or use mobile phones and iPods in school.

1. No student should stand on the footboard.
2. The students’ behaviour in the bus must be polite and ladylike. Loud talking, playing games, swinging on overhead rails and running up and down in the bus must be avoided.
3. The teacher on the bus will appoint a Prefect, who will be responsible together with the teacher for the seating and standing arrangements in the bus. As a general rule, seats will be allotted to the smaller children. Needless to say, every student will be given a seat. Teachers will have seats in the front and the rear of the bus, guarding the entrances.
4. No student can change her bus route without written permission from the school office. This note will be signed by the teacher on the bus and handed to the driver of that bus.
5. No student has the authority to change a bus or form a bus route other than that given in the school diary..
6. Any student found guilty of the above will be debarred from travelling on the bus.
7. Parents of students are not allowed to travel in the bus in any situation.
8. Parents are requested to see that children board the correct H-Bus and younger children are escorted back home.

*Parents whose children travel on H-buses are requested to take prior written permission from the Principal if they want the child not to travel back by bus on that day.
Bus facilities will be offered to students only on availability of seats

The children of class VI will be issued a library card.
1. Ensure that the books are checked in at the time of issue and return.
2. Return the book on the due date.
3. A fine of Rs. 10 per week will be imposed after the due date.
4. The card is not transferable. Don’t scratch the barcode.
5. If the card is lost, a new card will be issued after a payment of Rs. 100/-
6. The card is valid till class XII.
7. Only notebooks, paper and a pencil or a pen may be brought inside the library along with the library books due for return.
8. Students may borrow one book at a time on their library cards. Students of Classes IX to XII may borrow two books at a time. Cards are not transferable. The library card of a Student will be cancelled if she is found lending it.
9. Books are issued for a week at a time. They must be returned on the due date stamped on the date sheet. Only books for which there is no immediate demand will be reissued.
10. Students are responsible for the books borrowed on their cards. Any damage to the books should be pointed out the time of borrowing and the signature of the librarian obtained. The loss of books or the discovery of any damage to them will have to be compensated for by the students.
11. Books are issued and returned only during library periods. A fine of Rs. 10 per week for students will be charged for overdue books. Students may go to the library to return their books in the non-library period only if the librarian is free.
12. If a book is lost, it has to be replaced by a new one or its market price has to be paid. There is a penalty for scribbling in a library book.
13. Students of Classes III to IX and XI should return their library cards at the end of the academic year. Students of Class XII should return them before going on study leave for the Board Examinations.
14. Students are welcome to use the library for reference work during school hours if they come with written permission from the Principal / Supervisor / Subject Teacher / Class Teacher.
15. Library books, magazines and furniture are the property of the school and must not be marked, damaged or taken out of the library without permission
